Sherman Oaks Neighborhood Council (SONC) 

This week, the SONC Traffic and Transportation Committee will be reviewing and discussing the progress of LA’s Mobility Plan 2035. This is a plan for a connected network of pedestrian, bike, transit, and vehicle facilities which was approved by Los Angeles City Council in 2025.

The Planning and Land Use (PLUM) and Vision Sub-Committee will be discussing Public Land for Housing. In response to a reported nationwide and local housing crisis, the committee’s discussion will seek to identify publicly owned land that is appropriate for housing without taking away public open space.

Studio City Neighborhood Council (SCNC) 

This week, the SCNC Homelessness Committee will be discussing a plan to expand the available number of beds in LA County for homeless residents with serious mental illness. A California Policy Lab study showed that one in five homeless people in the county who have had contact with outreach services are diagnosed with serious mental illness.

LA City Council District 4 

City Council District 4 Representative Nithya Raman released her office’s 2021 annual report last week. The report highlights the progress of the district’s efforts to combat homelessness, improve sustainability in the city, reform City Hall and support small businesses.

LAPD: Van Nuys Community Police Station 

LAPD reported that property crime is up 8.06% for the southern portion of Sherman Oaks and a small southern portion of Studio City, as of Dec. 11. Violent crime was up in the area by 26.32% year to date. Crime was down in the northern sections of Sherman Oaks and Studio. Property crimes here decreased 12.157% and violent crime decrease 22.86% 

LA County District 3 

In District 3’s recent newsletter, Supervisor Sheila Kuehl of District 3 highlighted Renter Relief and ADUs, Camp Gonzales Fire Training, Whiteman Airport, Reproductive Health Rights and a Restorative Care Village at Olive View. Read the Newsletter
